Inspiration by city — New York Vol. 1
Inspiration by city intro
I often found myself taking photos or drawn to little details of a city, whether when I’m traveling or in my hometown, it could be the tile of a building, a specific color(s) that keeps popping up, a mural, a street, a street style, an artist, a product packaging or store, window display, a people-watching session, a person, an outfit, a restaurant menu, or even a plate and glassware in it. I started to notice I get attracted to all the design details since I was little and I often took the extra effort to document them down, so I decided to put them into a series of posts to organize them.
First up is a trip I went earlier this year before the pandemic — New York City, this city holds a special place in my heart as it is for a lot of people too I believe. Part of its uniqueness is in how everyone has his or her own special stories with it.
This was my 4th visit to the city and I hadn’t been back in four years, I was really excited, like REALLY excited, because … I will save the multiple reasons for another blog post, and just say because it’s “NEW YORK BABY!” for now haha.
Satya Twena at Neiman Marcus, Hudson Yards - The hats stole my heart instantly, I was drawn to its delicate metallic line art embroidery, and just like the what display says, they are magic.
TAVOLA on 37th & 9th - Tavola is an Italian restaurant located in Hells Kitchen, it is where I had the first meal after I landed, I enjoy the open kitchen and the intimate atmosphere in there, every group of people and every table was having a good time, including me, and that makes the delicious food even more enjoyable. I will definitely go back again!
The yellow cabs. For me, this is the color that best represents this city hehe.
I love me some lovely marquee lights.
Subway Tiles - There’s not a New York subway tile I don’t like. Maybe one day I will do a round-up of my favorite ones!
Alrighty, that wraps up my first Inspiration by City. I really do stopped and looking at things that have some sort of type designs more and more these days (which you can see from this post), I hope this inspires you to notice the wonderful little things no matter where you go! Tell me in the comments of the things you like the most when you visit a city or country, I’d love to know.
