30 Things to do in my 30s
Being THIRTY is exciting, I’ve written 30 things I learned before I turned 30, going forward, there are numerous things I want to do and accomplish, so I thought about making a list of the things I want to do, things I want to challenge myself, also by writing a blog post and publishing it, it’s a way to hold myself accountable. I’ve categorized these 30 things into three parts, and I will be coming back to tick them off as time goes by. Hopefully, by the end of 2029, I get to do all of these.
So… I wrote these when I was first turning 30, and now, I just turned 31st, it’s time to really publish this post, and let’s get on with this xx
in general
Fail. Big failures and small failures - During a conversation with my one close friend, I’ve realized I didn’t have a lot of experience in failing. Although it might be scary, this is something I’d like to add to my resume, knowing how much we can learn and gain strength from failures, and from admitting that we’ve failed.
And also, of course, to succeed - What does being successful mean to you?
Take initiative & speak up, go on a protest, be an activist for something I care about. Become the change I like to see.
Grow. Never stop growing, always push myself to grow, naturally, and as writer Leslie Dwight says about 2020, “so uncomfortable, so painful, so scary, so raw — that it finally forces us to grow.” I want that kind of growth and I’m ready.
Cook more, cook well. Make my favorite food from scratch. Pasta, Thai green curry, and fishballs maybe?
Throw more parties - dinner parties, picnic parties, birthday parties, brunch parties, and parties for no other reason than to bring people together for a good cause, online & offline. Create memorable moments!
Bake a birthday cake from scratch for a friend.
Establish a creative studio with the right people!
Send more handwritten cards - Let’s bring the romance back.
Stay brave. As I grow older, many things and incidents that have happened had definitely shaped and changed me, and for some reason, I felt that courage leaving me and I have to constantly remind myself how brave I actually am.
Places to Go, People to See
Jazz Lawn Ball - cuz we are in the freakin’ 20s!
Swing dance parties. You can already tell that I have a theme going on here…
Solo Traveling. Go somewhere I have no friends or family at.
Visit my dad.
Visit exhibitions, live performances, join creative conferences, and empowering communities. So far my two favorites are Yellow Co. & Freelancing Females.
Places I haven’t been to in my home country, Taiwan, like Jiufen and the islands.
Take a cruise trip!
Surf my heart out. Basically, learn how to surf.
Be outdoor adventurous! I’m a pretty adventurous person in terms of my personality, and I would like to push that more onto the physical aspect, like outdoor activities, especially to get close to nature. More hiking, more camping, more exploring of our beautiful earth, and have an intimate relationship with it.
Move to NYC.
Invest + Be Conscious
Whether is what I eat, what I surround myself with, or what I consume, more than I ever was.
Mindful eating & drinking
What I Watch & Read
Try to live a life towards zero waste, be environmental friendly.
Develop a proper skincare routine that the 40s me will thank myself for.
Be present. In days with smartphones and gadgets, the fast-paced, information overload generation… I want to challenge myself to focus on the moment, and live in it, fully.
To connect - Make the effort for the family and friends that I love, dedicate to the ones that matter. however technology goes, take advantage of it and connect, make the effort to stay close with them, be proactive in bringing relationships closer.
Listen better. Listen carefully.
Invest in slow fashion and long-lasting pieces, support the authentic sustainable brands. Establish my hat, shoe, jewelry & lingerie collections. Okay and maybe dresses too..
Get physically fit, work on my posture for health.
Do myself a favor and educate myself.
I have to admit that some of these are quite scary for me to put them in, as I mentioned earlier, it is a way to hold myself accountable, it is no longer a piece of to-do list in my notebook. For me, putting this out online in a space that anyone could see (or maybe no one would see), truly motivates me.
Some of these are not a one-time tick-off thing, some require constant effort and will be a journey. What are the ones you’d like to see me document? Perhaps I can eventually blog all of them!
